ONE BOOK, ONE SCHOOL PROGRAM

Goal: To build a sense of intra-school community, promote literacy and enrich the reading experience of the middle-school-age child at no cost to the school.

Description: Participating school/group/students all purchase and read the same book of the author’s. A “Celebration” day is then arranged, where the author visits for free and provides/presents a number of pre-selected activities all relating to the chosen book. Length of presentation varies based on size of book order.

How it works: Interested schools contact author to set two dates - the Launch Date of the One Book, One School program, which will include distribution of the books and rules of the program, and the Celebration Date, which will include any combination of the following activities:

      1.  Author talk

      2. One Book, One School Quiz Show with student participants

      3.  Power point presentation of “insider” information (ie., photo of ‘real’ Haven, black bread, Lincoln Middle School, the ‘real’ Aunt Kathy, Auntie Jane, etc.)

      4.  Skits (put on by classrooms/groups) of scenes from book

      5.  Question/Answer segment

      6.  Book signings

      7.  Lunch with author

Ordering Information: Books will be ordered by school (or group) through a vendor of their choice. I recommend ordering through one of the terrific independent bookstores in the school’s area. (For store locations, look at www.Indiebound.com.) Books can also be ordered straight from the publisher at a discount - see their bookstore at :

www.bloomingtreepress.com/catalog/index.php

Presentation levels are as follows:

Bronze: 75+ books ordered earns a one hour presentation of your choice

Silver: 150+ books ordered = Two hour presentation

Gold: 300+ books ordered = Three hour presentation

Visiting Information:

In-person author visits will be done within the Greater Chicagoland Area or by special arrangement. (Depending on location, mileage fees may be charged.) Author will happily participate in a Skype visit for schools in other states or countries.

Any middle school or K-8 school in the world can participate. It is recommended that in K-8 schools, only grades 5-8 participate.

Signed bookplates will be provided by the author, to be distributed at the completion the OB-OS program by participating teachers. To avoid confusion and/or disappointment, no special dedications will be honored. In the event of a Skype visit, bookplates will be mailed to the school at author’s expense.

One Book, One School Quiz Show participants may be chosen ahead of time by adults in any way deemed fair and appropriate. Participants may also be selected on Celebration Day by person of choice (author, principal, student president, etc.).
